March 3, 2014: D&A is pleased to share that Emerson Construction Company recently received the Associated General Contractor’s Austin Chapter “2013 Outstanding Construction Award” in the Industrial Warehouse 2 (over $5 Million) category for one of our civil design projects, a Wal-Mart Supercenter in Gonzales, Texas. This project was extremely complex consisting of a sloping hill with a creek running through the lower terrain. D&A designed four retaining walls which allowed the site to stair step down to a creek. Congratulations to Emerson, SGA Design Group and the rest of the team for the successful completion of such a challenging project!

January 28, 2014: Vincent Musat, P.E., LEED AP BD+C, who has a degree in architecture as well as a degree in civil engineering, is currently serving as a mentor for the Gerald Hines ULI Student Design Competition. For the last seven years, ULI-Austin has been proudly supporting this two week long competition by mentoring teams from the University of Texas at Austin. Vince, along with two other mentors - Lauren Fasic, ASLA, of Design Workshop, and Sean Mills, Senior Vice President of Plains Capital Bank - are mentoring a team of five students with backgrounds in architecture, land planning, urban design and finance to solve the 2014 design completion in Nashville’s historic Sulphur Dell neighborhood. As part of ULI’s Building Healthy Places Initiative, the student teams are asked to submit a development proposal that would promote healthy living for the residents of Sulphur Dell. The competition is being headed by Steven Spears, PLA, AICP, Principal with Design Workshop. This mentoring opportunity is a great way for Vince to utilize his schooling and expertise in land development to give back to our community. Thanks, Vince, for your efforts and good luck to all of the students involved in this program. For more information about the competition, click on one of the links below.
